We hope you'll join us for these FREE talks, taking place all weekend at the Spring Festival in the Castle Gardens area of Ludlow Castle. There's no need to book, just turn up and enjoy learning from some of our local experts.

Saturday, 11th May

12noon: Become A Better Beer Taster!

Rich Higgins is all things beer: brewmaster, beer travel operator, author, public speaker, and a consultant to breweries and restaurants. He is one of 18 Master Cicerones in the world, and additionally is a Certified Sommelier. He runs Beer Immersions educational beer tourism trips to Belgium and Germany. To offer an organized approach to blind beer tasting, he is the author and developer of the Deductive Beer Tasting Method. He spent over a decade as a professional brewer and brewmaster, three years as the President of the San Francisco Brewers Guild, and three years as Event Director of San Francisco Beer Week. 1pm: Wines, wine making and Vermouth!

Made in Spain, born in Shrewsbury! Paso-Primero is a boutique wine brand from Shropshire locals Thomas and Emma Holt. Not content with simply producing fantastic wines they've also added a hand crafted vermouth to their portfolio; Paso-Vermú. 2pm: Kirkwood Distillery - artisan vodkas

Come and learn why Scott Kirkwood from Kirkwood Distillery takes a different approach to his spirits, focusing on honesty and responsibility at every stage of his process. With good ingredients, great care and attention to detail, Kirkwood Distillery makes a good spirit and an honest spirit. Combining modern distillation equipment, traditional methods and an obsession for quality, Scott’s distillery produces true craft spirits of distinction. 3pm: Brightwells Auctioneers: Life's Too Short To Drink Bad Wine!

This talk, from Brightwells Wine Auctioneer expert Paddy Shave, will include advice on investment, storage, buying and selling wine at auction and when to drink wines at their best. There will also be a wine tasting masterclass. Visitors will have the opportunity to ask questions on all things wine related at the end of the talk. 4pm: Biodynamic Wines

Iron & Rose, a small independent wine shop in Shrewsbury, is all about real wine - wine made from beautiful, healthy grapes, organically or biodynamically grown with minimal manipulation in the winery: no secret ingredients, no funny business. Wines which express the place where they were grown. The kind of wines that after years in the wine trade and travelling the world Robin from Iron & Rose has come to love to drink. Come and discover a better way of drinking. Robin will talk about how wine is “made” and how wine is “grown” - there’s an important difference - and we’ll taste a few examples of the latter together!
