Graeme Kidd Bursary for people aged16-25
Ludlow Food Festival has set up a bursary as a memorial to Graeme Kidd, one of the Food Festival's founders, who died in 2009.
The purpose of the bursary is to provide practical help to one or more young people aged 16 to 25, to help them build a career in the local food and drink industry.
Guidelines
Our aim is to enable local people to develop their skills, experience and ultimately their career whether as a chef, food and drink producer or at front of house. We will consider every case on its own merits and the rules below are intended to be guidelines. In some cases, we are willing to be flexible to give the most deserving cases the best chance of achieving their goals.
The Bursary will be awarded to individuals who live within the Ludlow and the Marches area who would not otherwise be able to move forward in their career.
Please remember that the Food Festival may be able to help negotiate discounted prices with suppliers of equipment or training and so help stretch the money available.
Rules
1. Each grant will be for £1,000, although consideration will be given to increasing or splitting this amount between individuals in special cases.
2. The Bursary is for individuals who usually reside within the Ludlow and the Marches area.
3. The grant is to be used for training, travelling or equipment to further the applicant's career in the food and drink industry.
4. Each applicant should fill in an application form. This will require an account of no more than 1,000 words, explaining their needs, and the likely outcomes in terms, for example, of opportunities gained, personal experience and career development.
5.The application form will include an estimated budget for the use of the grant. It is assumed that applicants will need to provide some money for themselves, and some indication of how this will be raised should be given in the budget.
6. Details/proof of expenditure will be required following the completion of the funded activities
7. The completed application form should be submitted by Friday 20th April 2012 to the:
Bursary Committee, Ludlow Food Festival, Stone House, Corve Street, Ludlow, Shropshire SY8 1DG
8. The grant will be awarded in May at the Ludlow Spring Festival.
9. Successful recipients of the grants should write up their experiences after they have completed their projects. Ludlow Food Festival may turn this into a case study and use it for promotion of the bursary and the Festival's events.
10. Candidates, including previous winners, are free to apply for the Bursary again in following years although the Committee will not be biased towards a previous winner.
11. Each case will be reviewed on its own merits and being awarded the grant in one year is no guarantee that it will be awarded again.
12. Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by the Festival Bursary Committee. The committee will decide on who will receive the grant or grants, and the precise amount awarded. The decisions of the committee will be final.
