Ludlow Spring Festival 2016

What's on at Ludlow Spring Festival 2016?

We are working hard to sign up tasty food producers, quaffable beers, stunning cars and toe tapping music ready for another fantastic event inside Ludlow Castle on the 14th and 15th May 2016. Keep checking back as we will be updating all the time and the full programme will be available from March 2016.

Not just beer, bread and bangers, you will find plenty of stalls featuring top quality food and drink from small producers up and down the Marches, the Welsh border country. Products that have been produced on a small scale by people who really care that their food and drink should taste good, and be produced with care for the environment. You won't find big brands or supermarkets here! More about the 'Festival Pub' and List of Exhibitors.

BEER FESTIVAL - organised by SIBA (The Society of Indepedent Brewers Association) takes place inside the 'Festival Pub'.  180+ different real ales on draught (bottles too) from independent breweries from Wales and the border counties. Each brewer's entry will be part of the SIBA Wales & West Competition. More about the 'Festival Pub' List of Exhibitors here.

WINE, PERRY AND CIDER from local Marches producers, inside the 'Festival Pub'

TALKS AND TIPPLES will be in the Castle Gardens. A real focus on beverages! Full programme here.

CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES will be in the form of a kids area where your under 12's can come along and participate in hands on cookery. You can ask the team about children's canapes, colourful creations and MUCH more. Turn up and see what's happening.

MUSIC will be a feature in the 'Festival Pub' and this year we have an AMAZING and varied lineup so find out more about the music here.

When you arrive in the Outer Bailey, head for the large Festival Pub marquee where you can get your bearings, pick up your beer tokens, grab a pint or glass of wine and prepare yourself for a relaxing, fun-filled day. The Festival Pub is also the venue for live music and a focal point for the show. Cheers.

The Outer Bailey is also the place to see an impressive display of classic and vintage vehicles, some dating back to the early years of the last century. Gleaming bodywork, exceptional engines and enthusiastic owners will be the order of the day. Take your time to browse fine examples of motoring heritage and learn how vehicles have been lovingly restored by their owners. Full details here.

Interactive sessions with Chef Steve Lyons! Over the weekend 'create your own lunch', see the best of the bar snacks and indulge in everything chocolate! Book your places – they’re strictly limited – if you missed out on Pork Pies last year they are back!

There will be trails aplenty at this year’s Festival – make sure you check out what’s on around town, as well as what’s happening beyond the Castle Walls. We’ve got plenty in store for you, with pudding and pate trails, a Sunday Market in Castle Square and brewery tours at Ludlow Brewery. There are also plenty of great independent traders around Ludlow – you’ll be amazed by what you find.

LUDLOW BREWERY - Pop into Ludlow Brewery if you travel in by train and they'll give you a FREE sample in exchange for your incoming train ticket! We’ve teamed up with the town centre’s brewery, Ludlow Brewing Co, to run a series of Brewery Tours. They’ll take place throughout Friday, Saturday with each tour starting at 11am and 2pm.

Ludlow Brewing Co is a short walk from the Castle and for festival visitors arriving by train, it’s literally a stone’s throw away. The Brewery and its visitor centre and bar are 50 metres north of Ludlow Railway Station, off Station Drive, and is located in a converted railway station.

It’s capable of producing more than 500,000 pints each year and produces award-winning artisan ales, including Ludlow Best and Ludlow Gold. The brewery also won a trio of awards at last year’s Food Festival – a Gold and Silver People’s Choice for Black Knight and Boiling Well, along with the Professional’s Choice Gold Award for Stairway to Paradise.

People can pre-book a brewery tour, priced £6, and space is VERY limited so BOOK NOW to reserve your space.

FOOD TRAILS - We will be bring back the Paté Trail and also a Pudding Trail by popular demand and you are able to buy tickets in advance BUT please note that there will only be limited tickets available to give people who come at the weekend the chance to enjoy the event as well.

The Festivals are great fun and we have a web cam running from set up to take down so why not have a quick look at a speeded up version of the weekends activities so you know what to expect in 2016.

Don’t want to carry your shopping round the Festival?  Just leave it at our Bag Crèche located by the entrance which is being run by Shrewsbury-based charity Self Help Africa.

For a small donation, you can leave your bags there for as long as you like each day.  Leaving you free to enjoy the Festival - and do more shopping of course! All proceeds will support Self Help Africa’s work to help smallholder farmers in Africa to grow enough food to eat and make a living from their farming. With projects in nine countries, Self Help Africa help around 200,000 families to escape hunger and poverty every year. They offer low-cost, sustainable solutions which provide practical help where it's most needed. They don't give hand-outs or aid.  Instead, they provide families the skills and knowledge they need to feed themselves, lift themselves out of poverty and manage their own lives.

With support from Self Help Africa, the Mogombo family from Malawi have changed their lives for the better, ‘We eat three meals every day, even during the hungry season”, says mum-of-three, Memory Mogombo.  “Our grain store is full.  We sold some piglets and bought a new tin roof for our home.  We are doing better than before” Last year Ludlow Spring Festival visitors helped raise £1000 to help support African families to produce enough food so that they can escape hunger and poverty...for good.

Please visit Self Help Africa at the Bag Crèche – let them look after your shopping and help change the lives of African families for the better.
